Baby names are trendy

I came across this Week-in-Review on my MSN homepage, about top baby names trend.

Speaking about baby names, how many of you, with you partner, think of names for your future baby(ies)? I do *hands up*. Hehe. Last time, i would browse through baby names book at the bookstore (if i so happen to be on that shelf).

My brother was named after one of the many names in the baby names book, "Jeffrey". My parents actually bought the book. I mean, there are thousands of names in this world, you can even simply invent or even name one on the spot, like Jack, Ralph, Chloe, etc etc. I still remember my dad asked me (pointing at the names on that page) "you think Jeffrey or Jefferey is better?" I said Jeffrey. And there you go, a boy has its name and that name is local to me, everyday i go screaming, "Jeffrey, ......" here and "Jeffrey,......." there. Well, i think there were cooler names like Jacob or Kyle or Lucas. But, I did not recommend any of those to my dad because i was only 10, what do you expect.

MSN review says parents would name their baby with a name that has an attaching meaning. For example, mummy and daddy met and studied college at Paris. So, when they come back to KL, and their child is named Paris. Awww... so memorable.

And for this politics fans, they would name their child after presidents. In hopes that their child would grow up being a president. Or at least, a person who takes the lead and be a leader in the society. FOr example, George (Bush), Carter (Rutherford), Kennedy, Clinton, etc etc. Even i have encountered people named Mahathir, Abdul Rahman, Abdullah .. haha.

Some modern parents in the 21st century want their child to be unique. They get excited when they experiment with baby names. Hence, they customize or invent names. Even if it's just a change in spelling. For example, Kaithlin can be spelt Caithlyn, Kaithlyn, Kaithleen. Caithlyn is a nice name actually. Over the years, Kaithlin became Kaylin, Jaylin etc. In Melb, when i say my name is Christina, they would spell it Kristina, when i go to Boost Juice or Starbucks. However, parents must be smart to do one thing. When they become too creative, it might backfire. Hence, they must google the name to make sure it's not used for something weird/bad or some undesirable meaning.

It's ALL in the FAMILY. All the sibblings will have names which starts with the same alphabet, like Victoria, Vanessa, Valerie. Angelina Jolie's Maddox, Pax and Knoc also have unsual names and all three end with letter "x". As for chinese names, some families have rules. Like, my Ng family all the girls in the same generation as me has a middle name "PO" and as for the guys "CHIN". It's good in a way, there is a strong resemblance in names and shows that you are a family.

Nowadays, alot of names unheard of are coming up, Lake, Phoenix, Lyric etc etc. They can mean or something or nothing at all. Jessica Alba's daughter is Honor. Hmmm.. Nicole Kidman's Sunday Rose. Those are special and unique and will get people to talk about it....

Now, last is first. Last names used as first name is now a hot choice for new parents. Say for example, mummy's grandfather is Jack Ashbury. Now , mummy name his son Ashbury. It's really nice in a traditional kind off way.

Some parents like to keep it short. Like Max, Jack, Jake, Zac. We know Jamie Lynne Spears name her daughter Maddie (short for Madeleine). Names are now getting shorter and shorter. Ty or Cy...

Soma religious parents go for angelic names. Names that are flying high are like Heaven, Precious, Faith, Trinity, Miracle, Grace..

Celebrity = publicity seeking, i think. Sometimes, when they give birth and the magazine print a newborn celebrity child name on a mag, i will go like "HUHHH?" what is this? some come up with weird weird name, but most are acceptable. Like..

Gwen Stefani = Zuma Nesta Rock (reminds me of the Yahoo! game i always play ZUMA!). People already get used to Angie's Shiloh Noivel and Suri Cruise. Nicholas Cage's son is called Kal'el Coppola, apparently its the name of Superman on the planet Krypton, is it true?. Apparently, Shia LaBeouf is name by his grandfather and it means "thank God for beef". How creative can his grandfather be mann..His gfather must be a fan of steak. Jamie Oliver also one more.. Poppu Honey la, Daisy Boo la. Some celeb Arlyn & John Phoenix has a daughter named Rainbow Joan of Arc. Jordan's Princess Tiaamii....?!!! A celeb son name Audio Science also got. Haha. Pity the son, he must be teased much in school. The best is Jason Lee's Pilot Inspektor, my favourite name, which made me laugh for some time.
